The NZCPS has a strong and healthy membership that continues to grow from year to year. Members stretch around the world and with such an international focus, the NZCPS has recently standardised annual membership subscription rates. No matter where you are in the world, yearly membership to the NZCPS is now NZD $35.00.
What do you get for you membership?
Membership in the NZCPS has much to offer those interested in carnivorous plants. With a well respected and professionally produced quarterly publication, our journal 'Stenopetala' offers diverse articles ranging from fieldtrips and notification of newly discovered species, to publication of cultivar descriptions and cultivation techniques for a range of carnivorous plants.
The journal provides a forum to enable members to get in touch with others over their particular wants and needs, plant and pollen exchanges - or simply to meet other interested growers in New Zealand.
Regular meetings, plant sales and shows are held in Auckland with demonstrations and talks offering hands on experience for both the newbie and expert alike. From propagation techniques, such as division and stem cuttings, to flower pollination and hybridization, to species identification and what to do about pests and diseases.
Plant sales at meetings are very competitively priced and often contain plants that simply can not be purchased anywhere else in New Zealand. Members are also entitled to borrow books and videos from the extensive carnivorous plant library.
At each meeting there are normally one or two raffle plants available that members have kindly donated to the society and these range from easy beginners plants to those requiring a bit more skill. A cheap and easy way to pickup a plant.
Membership also entitles you to purchase seeds from our ever expanding seedbank.
Fieldtrips are planned each year and members are always guaranteed to see carnivorous plants in the wild and return home with plenty of photographs, damp feet, tired bones and yet a smile on their face!
Membership runs for one calendar year from funds received. Previously we have run membership from 1st June until 31st May, or from 1st January to the 31st December but this has proved difficult to keep track of late membership renewals.
Members will now receive a membership card with their new membership or renewal with your unique NZCPS membership number and stating your membership period. Keep this in a safe place and lookout for your renewal notice in your 4th journal of your "year".
